The bags were packed a few days ago, the mail stopped, the laptops backed up, and the itinerary sent out to all appropriate.
We spend most of the day airborne from San Francisco to London Heathrow.
Of course, sometimes I'm the only one awake...
Tuesday 14 December 2004 |
We spend our day in beautiful London, exceedingly jet-lagged.
Wednesday 15 December 2004 |
We enjoy a magnificent breakfast at the Café in the Park, in Russell Square, and head onwards to Covent Gardens Marketplace.
We spend the afternoon at the Science Museum and hear a concert at the Victoria & Albert.
Thursday 16 December 2004 |
We've adjusted to European time, and had a fine time in London. Now it's time to head onwards, to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria via Madrid-Barajas.
Friday 17 December 2004 |
We visit two play-places at the nearest Centros Comerciales.

We celebrate a special, special day: Isaac's Sixth Birthday!
Isaac goes climbing high and higher.
We finish our day of celebration at the Café de Paris.
Monday 20 December 2004 |
We head back to our favorite beach, but this time add a swing through Las Dunas del Maspalomas. This time Lila is very involved.
Tuesday 21 December 2004 |
We begin the celebrations of our anniversary & my birthday with a good Scottish breakfast.
We end our celebrations with a fine dinner of typical Canario food at one of our favorite restaurants, out in the foothills. The kids like their playground (and their food).
And here's the celebrating couple:
Wednesday 22 December 2004 |
We spend part of our tourist day going over to the other side of the highway, GC-1, for some specialized grocery shopping.
Thursday 23 December 2004 |
After some quality playground time, I make a home-cooked dinner of chicken breast wrapped in jamon serrano, spaghetti with octopus ink, and take the family to see Canarios from the north singing.
Friday 24 December 2004 |
It's Christmas Eve in a very Christian part of the world. We wish felicidades to all, except the Scandinavians, who get a cheery good jule. Did I mention that Isaac threw up on me?
Saturday 25 December 2004 |
It's a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky. We get some quality beach time and have a great Christmas dinner at Gisela & Rainer's.
Feliz Navidad!
Sunday 26 December 2004 |
Another beautiful day! Today we experience another footrace with Charlie (and Branco) along the Aveneda de Italia. The kids climb; Isaac gets to the top of the beach climbing structure. We watch a circus of the stars on German television.
Monday 27 December 2004 |
Today is truly a day of chores in San Fernando. The day ends up with a beautiful rainbow; the first in which I can see the end of the rainbow. No pot of gold.
Tuesday 28 December 2004 |
Today the kids get to run the show, and we visit two playgrounds and experience our first sparklers.
Wednesday 29 December 2004 |
Today we visit an arcade in which I played thirty years ago (!), see the local cheese, see what the big winds have done to a huge putted cactus, and best of all, return to the dunes to be sandblasted.
Thursday 30 December 2004 |
Today was a day of sun and fun. We took the bus to Playa Amadores and Puerto Rico, to enjoy the beach at the former, and to play with cars and trampolines at the latter.
