2004-12 Gran Canaria: Playa del Inglés Sunday 19 December 2004, continued Our first step in burning off energy from Isaac's 6th birthday party and lunch was to visit the game arcade below. A few games are outside, but unplugged, and it seems to have been permanently shut. The kids enjoy a tilting Jeep. ![]() ![]()
I just spent a bit of time looking at the photos of the climbing structure in the travelogues from years past and have realized that I've neglected to show the true scale of the thing.
Here's my attempt to rectify the situation. As you can see it's pretty damn big. Sadly, no attorney in the USA would allow such a thing to be erected.
From that height a fall, even onto sand, would be quite an adventure. Still, parents have to be supportive, and I'm focussing on how much Isaac loves to be high in the air.
Sadly, the local authorities aren't maintaining these play structures any better than anything else on the islands are maintained. The one at the Maspalomas beach has been ripped down, much to the great dissapointment of our kids.
Each time we visit we see more un-repaired wear-and-tear on the structure's cables; we fear it's only a matter of time before this one is torn down. It will really defuse the kids' enthusiasm for this holiday vacation. Playgrounds rule, especially in their minds.
Lila follows her brother into the air. She gets up to about two meters or so, several times. We're astounded. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
