Burning Man 1996: Other Scenes

These are scenes of Black Rock City 1996 which seemed not to fit elsewhere.

A panorama of the sun setting over BRC.

A rather elegant and simple shelter. The reflective material can be moved anywhere along the support arch. My only concern was that it might blow away in a strong wind. I absolutely adore the recycled chairs, which I'm sure were "repurposed" from city sidewalks where they'd been abandoned.

Another simple sun-shade between two tents. Newcomers don't realize that traditional woodland tents are terrible for the desert, trapping heat and keeping cooling breezes out.

Our neighbors, with their cluster of large and small tents and always-in-use trampoline.

A sculpture that didn't come to be.

The Black Rock City Travel Agency. Why would you want to go anywhere else if you're already here?

Couch Potato Camp, where we stopped off to rest on our tours of duty.

I can't talk to the Bean King thing, but the Fern Grotto was such a great place to un-playa for a few minutes. These were really nice people.

Another simple (and huge) sun-shade, made of American flags and other materials.

The suggested media oath: I will not speculate / I will participate / I will not interfere / with anyone's direct experience / ...

Nothing says "I'm having a great time at Burning Man" better than a defaced face with a spike through the skull.

That sculpture is being transformed from junk into something interesting.

The Pershing County Sheriff's camp. This was in the general camping area, and a really great outreach effort. People were really impressed with such a personable officer and his two canine partners, this daschund and an Altsatian (German Shepard).

Pirates on the move.

Numb Synapses Camp. Love the display!

Kids on a trampoline. Someday perhaps I'll bring my kids here.

A portable generator, delivering power in all directions.

The sculptor was so happy at this point, he was singing, smiling, and dancing around with a blowtorch.

Please remove all loose jewelery, shoes, spiked collars, Ben wa balls, anal beads, oxygen masks, unicorn tattoos, "Jesus was a Jewish carpenter" bumper stickers, Old Spice cologne, preconceptions and inhibitons before entering. Thank you.

The Warning

Another structure. This huge red tarp stretches between the two recreational vehichles, making a nice shady sitting area inbetween.

Ummm, baby on a stake? Whatever.

You've seen the places, now let's see some more of the denizens of Black Rock City.
