2002 Colorado: Seven Falls

Monday 8 July 2002, continued

We head out to Seven Falls. This is the view from the bottom of the falls. Omi is in the center, the visitor's center is to the right, and the trout area is to the right of that. Isaac dropped a few quarters into the fishfood dispenser, but the trout were so stuffed they ignored the offerings.

Here's the stairway from the valley floor to the observation platform at the top of the walls. Mom, Emil, and Adam started walking up (you can see them near the bend). As the stairway was closed (halfway up) they had to turn around and re-join us at the bottom.

There's a very cold tunnel leading to the elevator; the other way of getting atop Seven Falls. On a hot day like today the tunnel alone is worth the cost of admission. It's a moist cold, from the rocks, and it's very soothing. There are some historic mementos to be seen in several display cases against the walls.

A close-up of these two chaina puhnem (Yiddish: cute faces):

Here we are at the top of the falls, hanging over the railing of the observation platform. It's a long, long way down. Sadly, the usual panoramic style just doesn't do justice to what we see.

So we'll try another form of panorama. Does this work any better? I hope so.

Here's the entire clan taking a rest at the souvenir shop on the platform. Absolutely nothing tempting. It was very, very hot today, and not much shade to be had. We're all drinking water as quickly as possible.

Papa and son holding hands for shared safety. (Isaac was very aware of the heights. He was very happy to be up high, but also very mindful of holding hands against the danger. This is new to him, and it hasn't been repeated.)

We head back down to the valley floor, where we come across the under-age Native American dancers.
