Album 1999.10.12 (e)

We try to have a bedtime routine, one which includes turning on the security system, ensuring that the decorative front porch light is on, and that the kitchen shutters have been closed by Isaac.

At other times, especially when Naked Boy has visitied, it takes a bit longer to get the tiny tyke down.

We can always start by breaking down the changing setup and putting it away (so that Papa doesn't trip over it in the middle of the night when walking the bambino down).

At other times we put away our toys.

A die-hard favorite is the toy cell phone. It's so similar to our real cordless phone that more than once each of us (Marion included) has tried to use the wrong one.

On the real phone the switch-hook button is right where Isaac's hand comes in contact with the phone. It's not unusual to have Isaac hang up on callers who want to "speak with the baby". It's him, really.

Eating books is another favorite way to derail the pre-bedtime cleaning sweep.

Isaac knows what books are, and that they have a colorful cover and pages to turn, but he lacks the manual dexterity to do anything other than turning many pages at one time.

Usually nibbling the cover is an acceptable consolation prize.

Auntie Pamela is often around at the close of Isaac's broadcast day.

Here, before enjoying a sleep-over with her big sister, she's taken on a tour of the toys.

The activity saucer continues to be enjoyed by Isaac, although more from the outside than the inside. It's been a crucial part of his standing practice: he finds something worth standing and finds a way to get at it by standing.

Day is done.

Isaac says "bye-bye". (He really has his hand in the air, but it was more of a "look at me, I'm cute" than a "Y'all come back now, okay?
