Gulf War II - CBS Baghdad webcam: miscellany

One of the funniest things about the live feed is that it must be on a small camera, or one that's not marked. People nearby have all sorts of conversations [in person and on cellular telephone] within earshot, completely unaware that their private conversations are nothing but. I've heard American and English accents and conversations in Spanish, German, and otehrs in what I presume to be Arabic (which I don't understand). I'm guessing that folks stroll out onto the balcony, next to the cameras, and equate 'outside' with 'away from prying ears'. Chuckle.

Zoomin' In

Yep, I almost kipped over when I saw the great head looking out at me. Then the camera zoomed in and out, sometimes on the face, sometimes on the hair, back and forth. What was going on? It was this woman, a reporter about to be hooked up with her home office for a broadcast. After all the framing and focusing, they switched another camera to the video feed and we once again saw Baghdad but were able to hear what she was saying. Interesting.
As quickly as the first reporter dissapeared another one appeared. This one was waving a pad at the camera. (Now I know it was for color balance, but then I thought he'd lost his mind. :-) Then he started mugging for the camera. Like a mime on espresso. A lot of espresso.

Wierd moments

Those few moments between the end of some special feed, like a news briefing, and the resumption of the streaming video of Baghdad, are usually a bit from Iraqi television or whatnot. Some are obvious. Others I can't even begin to fathom. They're very hard to capture without taping the whole feed, something I just don't have the time to do.

Obviously this is Fearless Leader - or one of his doubles - lecturing the faithful with a rifle or shotgun. Helps to keep their attention, no doubt. Ummm, American television for footwear to excel in dry conditions? Humor? Irony?

Strange landscapes

A complete blackout. Only the lights of a lone car can be seen. Power restored to the park area in front of the mosque. Nothing else.
This is the oval in front of the mosque. Well-lighted, but nothing else on the skyline seems to have electricity at this moment.

A last few strange things

One of those momentary flashed between feeds, but I'm pretty sure it's Richard Engle once again. I think this was some sort of video artifact. I don't remember anything in the hours which preceeded this image nor in the ones which followed give the suggestion of a full-scale sandstorm.
I haven't emailed this address; perhaps Pete would like to hoar from us. Maybe not.
