2005 Ibiza: San Francisco (SFO) to Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP)

The time to go is finally upon us! We've been thinking about, and planning for, this trip for so long (it seems) that it's hard to believe it's really the day. Isaac, especially, has been counting down until it's time to be airborne again. That we're doing five legs - yes, really, five - is just a special treat for him.
Instead of our usual late-night departures (wonderful because it maximizes the time the kids sleep) or the occasional terribly unpleasant morning starts, this time we're heading out in the middle of the day. We have time for a quiet family breakfast and some necessary follow-ups.
Finally we're at SFO. Security is quick, and we manage to guide our six or seven items to the gate, where the kids gaze out at the magical goings-on.
NOTE: Because Iberia made such an incompetent hash of our bags last time we've decided to try taking only carry-ons this trip. Rose and I each have a full-sized business traveller's bag, and each a backpack, Isaac has a smaller traveller's bag, and each kid has a tiny backpack.
Here's a four-picture panorama of our departure, with all of San Francisco passing majestically below us. The few minutes it takes to cover this distance gives me a start; we're going to be flying for a long time to get where we're going, especially as it's not direct.
The kids love the trip; it's just as enchanting as it was for me when I was their age. It's such a pleasure to keep the wonder coming. A few hours later we see Minneapolis St. Paul airport (MSP).
Then it's time for leg two, to Keflavik (KEF), Iceland.
