1998 Point Reyes - End of Day

It's been a long day of hiking and berry-picking. My pack is extra-heavy with water and food. The sandwiches are from the supermarket deli counter; I'm too lazy to make a bag lunch. There's lots of water, and I do mean lots. Rose is guzzling water these days, and I get thirsty while hiking. Not to mention the Gore-Tex outerwear, in case the cold marine air returns in the afternoon (as it often does). We've each got our favorite hat to protect against the hot sun; mine is the Burning Man Ranger hat, Rose's is something we built while on one of our overseas trips.

Here we are on the side of the trail, digging into lunch a bit early. That's one of the benefits of being out with a pregnant chick :-)

I've taken the chopsticks from my pack; I rarely travel without a pair of neon orange chopsticks. They're versatile, easy to use, and always fit in the bottom of my pack.

We're digging into the salads which came with our sandwiches - I'm the potato salad, Rose is the macaroni salad. Nobody seems to choose the cole slaw. So it goes. We'll be up and running shortly. Back to the berry-picking.

After the hike we drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. It's been many hours since lunch, and we didn't eat much at the picnic - mostly the ice cream and a bit of veggies. By the time we get into the city both of our stomachs are growling. We decide to feast at the King Charcoal BBQ House on Geary Boulevard, near Arguello Avenue. A hibachi piled high with meats is brought to our table, the heat of which is terrifying. Then several dozen plates of condiments are brought to the table, and we make rolls of lettuce leaves, meat, and the condiments. My favorites include the dried fish and the spicy bean curd. Mmmmmm. Thank goodness we've chosen to live in such a multi-cultural world. The International House of Pancakes was never this satisfying :-)
