This is Peter Simons' request for support of a European branch of the Zimmermann Legal Defense Fund. It's been quite successful, as you'll see.

Almost six month after its creation, the european version of the Philip Zimmermann fund has transfered the reasonable amount of more than ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS to the mother fund in the United States.

Philip Dubois has sent me the following letter and asked me to post it in this forum as a big, big "thank you" to all the generous people who contributed money to the fund:

A more personal note, too: As the maintainer of the fund, I received many, many e-mails from donors and I must say, that I am damned proud of the "PGP community". Many people wrote, that they would love to give more money, but simply couldn't afford it because they are students or don't earn much at all, etc...

Many people expressed the admiration of Philip and his project and, last but not least, I received many personal thanks for my work. Even though I have never earned a single buck with PGP and my work, mostly for the Amiga version, I am deeply satisfied with what I did and I am proud to be a part of it.

Given the fact that most people donated about $20, you can easily see, how many people were willing to contribute. A big, big thank you to everyone of you!
