Album 2000.01.01

It's become a tradition to bring in the new year (and in this case, the new millennium) by strolling across the Golden Gate Bridge in the company of friends on New Year's Day, at noon.

This year, as in most years, the winds driving across the bridge made it colder even than the rest of the city. Veterans of the walk know to bundle up in layers. (Isaac is used to layers, coping as he does with the variable weather in San Francisco and the other places he's visited in his year of life.) Neither of us brought sunglasses, and so we're looking squinty in the bright sunlight.

It's a mile across the bridge; a two-mile round-trip. We bring a backpack filled with goodies for snacking and sharing. We have a bit of a feast on the far side. Someone always brings a thermos of hot cider to revitalize us. It works.

This is our official family portrait for the new millennium. (Yes, yes, I know it doesn't actually start until 2001, ....)

I can't tell you what a relief it is being in the 21st century. Like a breath of fresh air. My walk is more bouncy. Disco and Nixon have been left behind.

Please walk with us into this brave new world.

Have you found errors nontrivial or marginal, factual, analytical and illogical, arithmetical, temporal, or even typographical? Please let me know; drop me email. Thanks!
