2001 Kaua'i

My first trip to the former Sandwich Islands - now Hawai'i - was a weekend trip to Waikiki (Honolulu, O'ahu) in the late eighties. A friend knew someone who worked for the airlines, so we enjoyed an $99 air-hotel-limo package deal in the most tourist-oriented place I'd ever been. But it was great, and the ATMs at the Ala Moana shopping center were the first time I'd seen them outside of the urban mainland.

In the early nineties I visited Kaua'i with a girlfriend, staying in the opulent Westin, near Nawiliwili.

You may have seen the travelogue for my 1996 Kaua'i trip, where I discovered a really beautiful part of the world, one which has better resisted the tourist onslaught. That trip was notable for its helicopter ride and leisurely exploration of the Garden Isle.

This is my fourth trip to Hawai'i; my first with a wife and son. I'm very excited. I've just landed a job with Bianca's Smut Shack in San Francisco; this is my decompression and pre-job fortification. I'm really looking forward to showing Rose my Hawai'i, a place about which I wax (too) frequently. She visited O'ahu as a young child, but not since.

You're welcome to join us in our wanderings. Sit down and mouse away.
