Utilikilt
The Utilikilt is a modern interpretation of the classic Scottish vesture. Comfortable, as no bifurcated pants could possible be, this modern kilt is functional, stylish, modest, and sturdy.
The Utilikilt Company website URL At left you see me in front of our dollhouse, wearing a new Utilikilt-brand Workman's model, in chocolate. Easy to see are the bold silver snaps, on the neo-traditional front, and the wide belt. The belt, also available from the company, is a WWII vintage Russian military belt, with rubberized canvas. Originally I'd decided on a lighter, carmel color, but given two active children I opted for a more practical stain-hiding color. (The tee-shirt says Got Poi?, not "got pot?", as several folks have wondered. Sigh.)
If you want to know more about how the Utilikilt fits, read my review. How do I preserve the color, and wash the Utilikilt? I use vinegar as mordant, and cold water wash, dry flat on my old stovetop. No big whoop, but a quick collection of people's reactions to the Utilikilt. And of course, the ever-present frequently-asked questions. Not all of my Utilikilts are somber or pseudo-formal (as are my chocolate and carmel Workman's models). From the description on eBay: you are bidding on a new, Hunter Orange Camouflage one-of-a-kind Neo-Traditional style Utilikilt... We are always testing fabrics and this Utilikilt was created and then only used for a photo shoot.
This one has a very different feel than my Workman's. This material is soft and warm, almost a flannel. Not rugged enough to withstand serious outdoor adventures, but certanly cozy enough for hanging out in a duck blind and drinking coffee from a thermos.
