In 1989 a retail shop selling "new age" articles and "body and mind healing methods" (including different kinds of massage, Reiki, aroma therapy, Bach Flowers Remedies) was opened above the ECO offices. That modest shop was to become the New Age Bazar, now about 100 square meters in size and situated adjacent to the ECO offices. This page describes some of what we offer. Should you have access to interesting goods that you think would sell well, make us a good offer or leave it in commission to us to sell for you. Our commission rate is between 25 and 35 per cent, depending on the value and size of the goods.
We have over five hundred music cassettes and CDs in stock, including Tai Chi and Gregorian Chants, Japanese Tea Ceremonies, Jazz-Fusion, Flamenco (viva!) and Nouveau Flamenco, Osho-Music and meditations, instrumentals, flute, Ethnic and Trance, Celtic, Indian, Tibetan, Arab and African music, dances, rhythms, and rituals. (There are many more hard-to-classify new-age production from distributors in the USA, Germany, Denmark, and, of course, productions from the immense number of talented musicians from Eivissa.
We sell drums made on the island out of cacti and fiberglass, American Indian drums and rattles, Indian and Tibetan gongs, cymbals, bells and horns and flutes and a wide variety of wind chimes. There are even big drums made from French cognac-barrels! As an instrument "owner" you have the chance to participate in our frequent drum circles on the nearby beach of Benirras, even if you are not a musician.
We have many silent accessories for rituals, including numerous vedic bronze and brass statues, knives, spoons, incense and incense holders, oil and aroma lamps and essences of high purity, tarot decks, and pictures of Indian gods and goddesses.
The German-Spanish company RST, maker of water-saving devices, is well-known in dry climes. New Age Bazar is the exclusive RST representative on Eivissa. Products we carry range from micro-dot showerheads to stainless steel movable water outlets (which save up to 40 per cent of household water consumption by mixing air into the water). In the summer months, when the cisterns have to be filled by water-trucks, the RST devices pay for themselves immediately.
With about 300 sunny days annually, it makes obvious sense to replace one-use batteries with rechargeable batteries and to recharge them with solar power. We stock many sizes of the best brands of rechargeable batteries and solar-powered rechargers. We also have some electronic devices with built-in solar cells. We even provide a bin for your used and dangerous batteries; we collect them and hand them over to a branch of Friend Of The Earth International, with whom we've been associate members for years.
From Morocco we stock many colors of natural henna hair-dye; from India we have the famous ayurvedic Chandrika soap and Vicco and Auromere toothpaste; from Australia we have Tea-Tree products including pure oil, sun protectors, skin moisturizers, ointment, shampoo, conditioner, toothpicks, and a kit with all of these in travel-sized containers. More and more people are more conscious of their eating behaviors and more choosy about what they eat. In the spring of 1995 we introduced to Eivissaa broad line of soya, tofu, and seitan products from a well-known French company. We sprout alfalfa, soya, and radish seeds ourselves and sell them over the counter. We give our clients a choice of better, more nutritious, less-contaminated foodstuffs including dry fruit, pita bread, spices from Asia, rice of many kinds, Muesli, yeast products, and a variety of black, green, fruit, and spiced teas. We're planning a department for fresh, home-grown fruit and vegetables while we already offer homemade products including marmalades, chutneys, and fresh whole grain breads.
Our collection of minerals, semi-precious stones, crystals, and silver jewelry is known across Eivissa. Often we take pieces in commission from travelers returning from Madagascar, Brazil, or Burma. Once a year we exhibit all our stock during an exhibition combined with a seminar on healing stones and crystals. We hope to see you there.
