This is a short demo video of what’s called “2.5D parallax”, the conversion of a two-dimensional (2D) photograph into something not quite three-dimensional (3D), so it’s 2.5D :-)

A photo is broken into fore- and back-ground layers, with interesting objects having their own layers, areas behind the new-extruded objects are faked with some Photoshop cleverness, and then each layer is put onto a timeline and put into motion. Bam!
