Finally, we arrive in Cape Town, South Africa! I’ve heard many good things about CT. We just passed by the lowest point on the continent, L’Agulhas, and have been driving along the curvy coastal roads. They’re now calling this area “the San Francisco of Africa”, and I can certainly see the resemblance to the central California coastline. The adrenaline jumps as we see the first near signs of CT.

Carmella found us a wonderful AirBnB in the Cape Town hills, within walking distance of the waterfront. (I didn’t want to have to use a car while in the big city.) As excited as I am to be back in the urban vibe, I’m blown away by the sheer beauty of how the AirBnB is decorated! Every nook and cranny has artistic, comfortable touches. There isn’t a glance that doesn’t delight.

The bedroom is inviting, and the bed is delightfully comfortable. The hardwood floors are immaculate, and the entire house looks so loved and cared for.

That love extends into the bedroom: from the deep tub for two with the showerhead conveniently mounted in the middle to the thick sink with a flower to the wooden deck festooned with potted plants, this is such an inviting place. I just got here and I don’t want to leave :-)

The eye-catching architecture extends to the rough wood slats that provide shade above the outside common area and the entranceway.

The view from the front porch includes the ocean and Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.

We walk around the neighborhood to stretch our legs after the drive and come across the term CUL DE SAC emblazoned across a road. (South Africans, we use the term “dead end.”)

By the time we return, a few hours later, the blue skies are gone and it’s overcast. We had good timing.

Next up, the next day’s trip up to Signal Hill.
